Remove outer door handle

Posted by zapp on Oct 21 2015 in HowTo, FAQ and Tech Hints, Ford Trucks pre '48, Ford Cars pre '48

Have you ever tried to remove the outer door handle of your 70 year old Ford car or truck? Let me guess, after a half can of WD40 you thought there might be something wrong...

applies to

Brand

Ford

Model

Cars & Trucks

Year

confirmed: 1938-1941

Here is the solution:

  • Remove the two screws, that hold the outer door handle
  • Push down the inner door handle and at the same time, pull the outer door handle. Because you already used a half can of WD40 there should be enough grease that it comes out easy. Maybe you have to wiggle a bit.

Any tricks to remove the handle with the linkage broken off the latch that goes to the inside handle? The spot welds that hold the latch and arm togeter look like they broke
